The GOP Blues

Fred Dalton Thompson....Law and Order wind bag....potential candidate for President in 2008.

Fred Thompson’s main claim to fame is being as an actor/politician. Now GOP strategists are trying to remake this oafish sloth into a Reagan-esque charismatic man of the common people.

I am a bit disgusted by the whole charade. The country needs leaders, not more fake grandstanding on behalf of people who see that control is slipping from their cold dieing hands. What's next, Bo Derek as Secretary of Education?

Fred Thompson is riding the wave of a bizarre campaign by Fox News and other conservative media outlets to find a “true conservative “. It shows just how desperate the GOP is at the moment. It is like having a kazoo solo in the middle of a depressing song about madness.

If this guy ends up President, he will make President Bush look like FDR. This is the guy who routinely said he did not like how much work was involved in being a Senator. Can you imagine him as the POTUS? A Fred Dalton Thompson presidency hurts America. Lazy Presidents rely on military action instead of the effort required to be a true statesmen. However, a Thompson run could further damage the GOP, which is fine. I’m torn…..

Anyway..Its good to be back

Destroying the Death Star

There are moments in life that change you. In a year of first for me, I found today to be unique. It all began during a class today as I passed out an essay assignment. When getting the assignment, a future inmate of a Federal Correctional Facility responded, “Mr. Prez, you are a massive Douche Bag” in anger, inciting a near riot in class. Many…and I mean many… would agree, but I digress…I was offended. This boy should have been tossed out years before my arrival. It is like dealing with two year old excrement.

Now for those of you who have known me for a while, you know my gusto for expletives has practically no bounds. I have been talking like a Saigon Whore since I was in the second grade, when my rage could no longer be caged.

As I have grown older, my vocabulary has become more Avant-Garde and I have mellowed out. However, in the category of expletives, I have remained a consistent source of vitriol for all who deserve it.

Almost amazingly, in the classroom I have transitioned into the “Czar of the Language Reprimand ”. In my position as educator, I have graduated to the rank of “Hypocritous Elitous”. I am no grammar ho, I don’t tell people how they butcher the English language. Even so, if I could refrain from swearing and talking like an illigitimate inbread moron in school for 20 years, anyone can.

In a twist, I have also been known to have an Ultimate Warrior/ Incredible Hulk style explosion when I am disrespected. You wouldn’t like me when I am angry.

After what will forever be known as “The Kid who will suck at life D-Bag Incident”, I found myself filling out paper work for the student's eventual 2 hours in ISS with a smile. I didn’t use my fists, diabolical verbiage, or dark sarcasm in the face of stupidity. I valued my position, my pay check, and I bottled the rage. Actually....I did use Dark Sarcasm. Sorry Roger Waters...its just how I role.

I was rewarded by Karma in the end. The song that blared from my car radio just happened to be a certain GnR classic.

It was then, …in the car, …that I realized I should have formed a G n R tribute band back in ‘91. I would be an awesome guitarist by now....

Hey, what can I say...the track we take to our Epiphany’s don’t always make sense people…

With a three day weekend to mull over some options, the Prez will return in the perfect sequel to "From Russia with Love", entitled "From Rhode Island with Affection". See you then!

The 1/20/09 Chronicles

On the day that Chris Cornell leaves Audioslave and a planet of Rock fans turn their eyes to the upcoming RATM reunion, The Prez lets out his grief with a commentary on the newest favorite to win the Republican Primary. So in his latest installment of the 1/20/09 Chronicles, with the help of Elvis Costello the Prez asks,

What’s so Funny about Rudy?

Recent polls and biased liberal news outlets have begun to show perennial candidate John “The Next Big Thing” McCain slipping in the hearts and minds of conservatives everywhere. Who has begun to warm these cold hearted bastards with his hot island songs? It is “America’s Mayor” Rudolph Giuliani. Not since Diamond Joe Quimby has a Mayor held the perception of masculinity and supreme political prowess while doing so little. Since he left office in 2001, Giuliani founded Giuliani Partners, a security consulting business, acquired Giuliani Capital Advisors, an investment banking firm, and joined the Bracewell & Giuliani law firm. Something tells me Giuliani has Bracewell’s vote, but why on earth would anyone else vote for this guy?

What else….9/11.

Guilani first gained prominence as a hardcore prosecutor. This is the guy who indicted Anthony “Fat Tony” Salerno”, the head of the Genovese crime family. As a Mayor from 1993-2001 Giuliani was a controversial, typical Yankee fan. He “cleaned” up Times Square with a “redevelopment project”. Without the spin, this means he pretty much closed the peep shows and bussed the homeless people up state. Viacom was happy. Giuliani embraced illegal immigrants, and became a media savvy politician. However, his personal life has long been a mess. This is not a gossip column, so let’s just assume it has been funky and leave it at that.

However, the sight of Giuliani, mask and all, trying to coordinate the emergency services that awful day was really something. On that day, Rudy Giuliani gained so much in the minds of American’s, some would say he almost profited more then the Carlyle Group on 9/11. In that moment all of this man’s short comings in the eyes of the peeps were vanquished. The corruption in City Call, the Gestapo tactics toward the poor, the bizzaro outing of his affair with Judith Nathan, the rage of Mets fans after the 2000 World Series. All of it…gone in an instant.

This Cat was named Time magazine’s 2001 Person of the Year. He received an Honorary Knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II. He was a member of the Iraq Study Group.

Despite this, not since 2001 has Guliani been the poster child for the Republican Party. Staying relevant has been a problem, as so much has transpired since then. The War in Afghanistan was botched, the War in Iraq turned into another Vietnam, and Curse of the Giambino turned the Yankees into the Texas Rangers. However, both political parties are now in transition phases. In recent weeks Giuliani has highlighted his concerns for securing America’s economic and military future, not to mention lots of talk about Homeland Security. Ahhh…His bread and butter.

You know Wall Street is a big fan. The Conservative business community has long been the baby huey of the Republican Party. As the religious right reexamines how to take over the world on the “back” of Sam Brownback, Giuliani shakes the hands of centrists and conservatives in places like New Hampshire, Iowa, and California.

Will this win Giuliani the Republican Primary? Logic says the South will need to get on board big time. Something they are very reluctant to do. Which means Rudy best get on his knees. However, when 9/11 is the beginning, middle, and end of every aspect of your campaign in the minds of the ‘folks, anything is possible in America. Just ask the Boy Prince.

Of the Wesleyan Nine, the original RG right now is ahead of “The Next Big Thing” 7-2. Very Bizarre….but what do expect from people who still get information from the Radio.

The Prez on Voting

Remember, Remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes ‘Twas his intent,
To blow up the King and Parliament
Three score barrels of powder below,
Poor old England to overthrow….

On November 5th, 1605 a Catholic explosives expert named Guy Fawkes was arrested in a tunnel in the depths of London as he prepared to position enough explosives capable of blowing up the Houses of Parliament as part of a larger conspiracy to create revolution in England. This story of coarse was recently brought to many Americans via the film V for Vendetta in 2005, the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Treason. In the film, a masked anti-government “freedom fighter” seeks to bring about the downfall of a totalitarian regime by blowing up symbols of institutional power and creating chaos in the hopes of aggressively agitating the people to stand up to their nihilistic overlords.

If the film has a redeeming quality, it is its message that the power of words is the most accessible weapon of choice for the masses to create socio-cultural change. Anyone could have just bought a KRS-One album to figure this out, but this message is especially important when responding to our “Silent Obedient Consent” in the face of fear politics, exploitation, and scapegoating by both conservatives and liberals in power. Of course, the films’ message is lost in the face of the protagonist’s thirst for violence and destruction, i.e. his vendetta. According to Wikipedia, David Walsh, from the World Socialist Website criticizes V's actions as "antidemocratic" and cites the film as an example of "the bankruptcy of anarcho-terrorist ideology" ,stating that because the people have not played any part in the revolution, they will be unable to produce a "new, liberated society." I must say, despite my own revolutionary tendencies, I felt the same way after viewing the film. Revolutions that extol demagoguery are shakier then Drew Bledsoe in the pocket, and a hell of a lot more destructive.

As we race toward an election this Tuesday and look ahead to 2008, it is important to take this time to reflect on the notion of voting as a means of creating change. Now, let it be known, that the Prez feels that the potential for creating regime change via the voting booth represents the best of our nature as human beings. It is what separates us from the irrationality of extremism seen around the world. With that said, I feel that it is time that people re-examine the entire apparatus of voting in America. As I have stated in the past, after two major voting catastrophes in 2000 and 2004, my confidence in the current system has been shaken, seemingly forever. While this coming Tuesday there remains the potential for optimism, I feel it lies more in competition then in seeking to create a more perfect world.

In a recent interview, Bill Clinton said that Democrats should see the example of Republican rule for the past 6 years. Even with total control, they GOP has squandered it’s political capital and defamed many of the principles it held paramount. (Fiscal Responsibility? Switchgrass? No Child Left Behind? Please….) Thus, it is left to the masses to fill the void where logic and political policies are at a disconnect. Unlike his penchant for fat chicks, Clinton is not wrong about this.

"You Gotta Pay What You Owe !"-Huey Freeman, The Boondocks

My biggest concern now is that the masses are a bunch of idiots. Even if I am wrong about this, aspects of our human nature seek safety and security that also allow us to be deceived, bought, and unable to lash out against tyranny in our times of need. It is learned hopelessness. Even as the injustices and inequities of the Westphalian State gives way to our collective silence through the process of Globalization, middle and lower class Americans seek not control, but a piece of the pie. It energizes us to seek the American Dream, even as we become increasingly marginalized as a whole and the American Dream becomes an impossible carrot that keeps us under the proverbial thumb of the ruling class.

The greatest fear of the middle class in America is not the immigration of Mexicans, but the politics of tyranny. In voting, we have a vehicle that seemingly allows us to change our reality, but it doesn’t often happen. I think it is because of our problems with choice and the question of where our true loyalties lie. Case in point, the entire factions of the American populace that are convinced the Rapture is upon us and the current war in Iraq is beginning of the end times. Thus, instead of seeking peace, they seek policies that stay the course on the road to Armageddon. Does voting become the tool of those in power to maintain power? You Bet.
How long will the Katharine Harris’s of the world be allowed to defame democracy and come out on top? Until we use the ballot box to create change or the world explodes.

The problem is that not enough Americans vote. In the past I have advocated for compulsory voting practices, three day elections, and even making election days national holidays. I stress voting as a means of creating change, and at the very least as a means of remembering that millions have died to create, protect, and sustain our right to vote no matter who you are. It easily falls on deaf ears. Now with roughly half the total population voting (and that is being kind) all the person needs to win a presidential election in America is get just above a quarter of the total population vote.

We need to solve these issues fast. I think if more people vote and were active in the future of our world, that even if the voting practices are in fact fixed as I believe (http://www.nightweed.com/usavotefacts.html), we shall overcome. Hope still lies in the action of voting here in America. Until we can come together as a nation, people will need to continue to Remember the 5th of November, because we choose not to recognize the greater magnitude of the 7th of November.

Jesus Rode a Donkey

There is nothing worse then a sanctimonious piece of shit. This might be confusing to hear for some of you who know me only as a sexier version of Napoleon. This is why my new response to an old question posed to me this holiday weekend caused such an uproar.

The question was, “If you could have dinner with any three people, from any time in human history, who would it be, why would you pick them, and what would you eat?”

I have answered this question in the past, with each response I can remember representing the dominant phase of my evolution as a human. Gone are the days of Vanilla Ice, Wade Boggs, and Jerry Rice. So to, are the responses of a 20 year old Prez, (Halle Berry, Jenna Jameson, Tray Parker, and Britney Spears, Video Ho’s 1 and 4). As I approach the completion my first quarter century of life on earth this time around, I figured it would be best to think it through.

Changing Philosophy at the Brickyard?
Now, most of my friend’s responses were fast with little thought given. Still included in their responses were various athletes, porn stars, and other entertainers. Unique to a few responses was President Bush. This interested me, as most of the lads have historically been apolitical. Even more interesting, was the seemingly positive nature of his inclusion. Now I could see inviting him only to have an open season on berating his ineptitude, but not to talk about interns, hunting or farming.

Thus, my first response was meant to counter their oblivious nature to the idea of truth, justice, and freedom. My first response was Edward R. Murrow. After having to explain who he was, they got it.

On the flip side my second choice was Julius Caesar. On this I agree with my friends, the tyrant’s view of the world always makes for unique dinner conversation. So I figure, why not chose one of the best known in recorded history, if only to see how far we have come in the past 2,050 years. The democratic tyrants are just as evil, but do they ever hunt down their enemies themselves any more? No. At least Caesar himself went after Pompey and led the charge on horseback. Plus, I just saw the first season of HBO’s “Rome”. (It was good. Combining blood, sex, soap opera drama, and history is always sweet). Thus, my infatuation with the relationship between history, power, and mans lust for war was complete.

But it went to the next level.

My final selection caused the aforementioned uproar. The cynics were outraged and the heavens shook. Now, maybe it was just Tropical Storm Ernesto, but my selection of Jesus produced laughter, horror, and disbelief, so much so my drink flew off he table.

Bring on the Uproar
Why? To see him eat ribs? To prove that he exists? To ensure wine at the table? No tits at the table at all? No presidents? Just to ask him what he thinks of Mel Gibson Wacko Douche? To see him get high?
Why?
To talk to him about Ned Lamont, the war, the environment, and Aaron McGruder of course. According to a song I heard in High School, one simplified, educated middle class, white liberal view of the man we call Jesus was that in modern terms he was a long haired Socialist Jew. A Howard Zinn at the time of antiquity. And according to which book of the New Testament you read, he is either a symbol of peace or vengeance. No doubt in my mind he would be aghast at what has taken place in the past 2,000 years in his name. I could say the same for every other symbol of god that has been used on earth. I don’t think he would be angry with me that I don’t think he was the son of god. There were several prophets during the rule of the Romans in Palestine/Judea during the first century that sought similar ends, and suffered a similar fate.

“Your a DEMOCRAT, whose doesn’t attend mass, why would you want to meet JESUS?”

I said my friends were a-political, but they are totally susceptible to the media driven neo-conservative agenda.

I think Jesus would be a progressive Democrat. His mode of transportation not withstanding, he was a poor carpenter. Would he support Unions? Yes. Would he want universal healthcare? Yes. Would he want free education for all people? Yes. Of course, we wouldn’t really know unless we spoke with the man, over a nice dinner of Chicken Parm and linguine with frosty chocolate milkshakes.

The Christian Left exists, .................yes, they live in America.....I swear it.......and while they to are also scary, at least their priorities are not money and power. They seem to extole the philanthropic virtues of the message attributed to Jesus, Just ask Ramon Estavez…or Martin Sheen. So when the Conservatives use fear to pimp Jesus and God as vengeful to line their own pockets and the ballot boxes, while telling us all that they both would disapprove of Steven and Bob from next door getting married, tell them that as a poltical party and poltical idiology they do not have a covenant with god.
Whoever she is….

Karl Rove needs “His 3 million Evangelicals” to all vote in order to avoid conservative defeats this fall. Here's to hoping that they seek the path of righteousness and freedom, and avoid their normal path of manipulation, degradation, and discrimination.

Now I’ll get off my pedestal, because those who are sanctimonious make me sick….

-Also, thanks to a couple of fellow former residents of the Towers dorms who survived UConn with me, Doug E and The Moose, my readership has gone international. Unfortunately, it goes to one of the seediest places on earth, Souteast Asia, home to whores, pirates, terrorism, and The Island. Sounds like an awesome time to me! Guys, enjoy your travels and try not to end up with VD, or in one of those Indonesian jails.

As always ....Strength and Honor......
